Job Introduction

Electoral Canvassers

Northumberland County Council, Electoral Service is looking to recruit temporary door-knock 

canvassers who are committed to providing an efficient, effective and customer focused 

service to the residents of Northumberland.

Job Details

Every year the council has a legal duty to undertake a canvass of households and produce a revised 

Register of Electors by 1 December which lists all the people registered to vote.

We are looking for enthusiastic, flexible individuals, to assist with the annual canvass. We want you

to visit households in an allocated area at suitable times when the residents are expected to be 

home, including evenings and weekends to encourage completion of the Canvass Form.

To be right for this role you will need to:

• Be at least 18 years of age.

• Have access to your own transport which must have business insurance cover.

• Have excellent communication skills; both oral and written, and the ability to work alone in 

outdoor conditions.


Essential requirements:

● Attend an informal web-based discussion, further information will be provided to successful 

applicants.

● You will be required to collect stationery from County Hall, Morpeth on 10th September 2025

time slots to be confirmed closer to the date.


We are offering: 

• An hourly rate of £12.65 (In addition annual leave pay will be accrued for hours worked).

• You will be paid the NJC mileage for all agreed mileage incurred.

• Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (or other pension scheme)
